Despite a small on-site team supporting commissioning activities, the project has continued to operate fully in line with Eastgate’s company standards, demonstrating that strong safety behaviours are maintained regardless of team size or project phase.
A recent example of this commitment to safety was recognised by our client, Envision, who presented a certificate and prize to Terry Scarr in acknowledgement of his positive contribution to site safety. Alongside Kai Faccini, Terry identified water ingress dripping onto an electrical component, a potentially serious hazard if left unaddressed.
Rather than walking past the issue, they took immediate and appropriate action by barricading off the affected area and informing site management. This proactive response prompted the client to isolate the electrical component, identify the source of the leak, and carry out the necessary repairs, eliminating the risk before it could escalate.
Their actions clearly demonstrate the importance of vigilance, ownership and intervention when unsafe conditions are observed. Terry and Kai were rightly recognised by the project team for not only identifying the hazard, but for acting decisively to protect others.
This example reinforces a key Eastgate principle: everyone has the responsibility and authority to stop, challenge and act when something is not right. It is these behaviours that continue to underpin our strong safety culture across all projects.
