As Eastgate continues to support major offshore wind projects at the Port of Nigg, we’re also committed to supporting the people who will help shape the future of the industry.
This summer, the Eastgate team has grown a little larger with the arrival of Henri Dowling and Davan Murphy, who have joined us through a 12-week Pilot Internship Scheme delivered by NMIS Wind Skills in partnership with the University of Strathclyde.
For Henri and Davan, who are both studying towards Mechanical Technician roles, the internship offers a unique opportunity to step beyond the classroom and experience the offshore wind industry first-hand. Based at Nigg Bay, they’ll gain valuable insight into the delivery of a major wind turbine pre-assembly project, seeing the scale, complexity and teamwork involved in bringing renewable energy developments to life.
Over the next few months, they’ll spend time working with a variety of teams across the business, gaining exposure to operations, QA/QC, procurement, project management, and HSEQ. By experiencing these different areas, they’ll develop a broader understanding of how each discipline contributes to the safe and successful delivery of offshore wind projects.
One of the most valuable aspects of an internship is the opportunity to learn directly from experienced professionals. Throughout the programme, Henri and Davan will work alongside colleagues with years of industry knowledge, giving them the chance to build practical skills, ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities that come with working in the renewable energy sector.
As the offshore wind industry continues to expand, developing a skilled workforce has never been more important. Initiatives such as the NMIS Wind Skills Internship Scheme are helping to create clear pathways into the sector, providing students with meaningful workplace experience while helping businesses invest in future talent. These opportunities not only support professional development but also give young people the confidence and experience needed to pursue long-term careers in engineering and renewables.
