A Year to be Proud of

Digital STOP Card System

Sembcorp has now fully adopted the digital STOP card system on site. Uptake has increased steadily, demonstrating strong engagement from the team. To further encourage proactive safety behaviour, monthly rewards will be awarded for the best STOP card submission. This initiative is already helping to drive positive safety conversations and continuous improvement across the site.

PPE Improvements

A new type of glove offering a high level of cut protection has been introduced to site for trial. These gloves are being trialled throughout January, with initial feedback from the workforce proving very positive.

In addition, a waterproof thermal version has also been procured to ensure the team remain warm and dry during the winter months. All feedback gathered during the trial period will be formally reviewed and passed to the HSEQ Manager to support future PPE selection.

Chop Saw Area Solution Delivered

Recently, the client-provided chop saw area was condemned due to issues with the tented structure. As a result, the benches were removed, leaving no stable base for safe chop saw use.

The Eastgate team worked collaboratively to identify a temporary solution that would allow work to continue safely. A portable bench was purchased, enabling a temporary setup that can be easily installed and stored away until a permanent solution is established.

This setup has proven highly effective, and several other companies on-site have since decided to purchase the same arrangement.

2026 Outage Planning Underway

We have now entered the final year of the term contract agreement, and planning for the 2026 outages is well underway. The client has begun populating work lists, and the Eastgate planning team is actively reviewing and progressing tasks as specifications are completed.

The current 2026 outage schedule is as follows:

  • GT2 Outage: 21st February – 6th March
  • GT1 + ST11 Outage: 19th April – 22nd May
  • W10 Major Outage: 13th June – 12th July
  • Water Treatment Outage: 5th October – 15th November

All outages throughout the term contract have been delivered on time and on budget (including agreed CVIs), and the team remains fully focused on maintaining this standard throughout 2026.

Lessons Learnt

Throughout 2025, each outage event had its own lessons learnt register, providing valuable insight across all departments. While many observations related to client-based systems, the Eastgate team reflected on improvements within our control. Improved communication between Eastgate and the client has already contributed to better alignment and delivery of work to the correct specification.

Safety Performance: A Year to Be Proud Of

Eastgate achieved zero accidents or incidents in 2025, with over 20,500 man-hours worked. This is a significant achievement for a small team managing a high level of transient labour across four outages, alongside an emergency repair of fire-damaged cables.

This success is a testament to the professionalism, commitment, and safety-first mindset of everyone involved. Credit goes to the entire team for delivering safe, successful, and high-quality work throughout the year.
